String Arrangements, Orchestration and Composition

As a professional violinist, violist and orchestrator, Vaughan Jones has an intuitive understanding of how to arrange for strings or compose music for string orchestra, using the instruments to their maximum potential for a diverse range of styles and effects. If you are looking for originally composed music for a documentary, radio production or advertisement - or would like some instrumental parts arranging or notating for a ballad or rock track, Vaughan is happy to work collaboratively on a wide variety of projects. As an experienced session musician, he knows how frustrating it can be to arrive at the studio and find that there are inaccuracies in the written parts which waste valuable studio time, so he is passionate about preparing flawless string arrangements in advance of the recording session which can be read perfectly first time by the studio musicians. 

Vaughan believes that when writing for strings or arranging strings for a track, the best results are achieved by 'thinking like a string player' rather than simply playing in chords via a keyboard which is restrictive by its very nature and unlikely to sound like a real string orchestra, even when real string players are hired for the recording.

Although he specialises in writing for a string section, Vaughan works professionally with Sibelius software and can arrange music for other instruments when required, providing perfectly orchestrated sheet music for use in the recording studio. Although scoring for strings makes up the majority of his work, Vaughan is increasingly being approached to produce studio orchestrations which involve other instruments.
